Good Seed Community Development Corporation (“Good Seed” or Good Seed CDC”) grew out of the Good Seed Church, formerly based in northern and southern California. The church’s tradition included a strong commitment to service which manifested as a food bank, a youth shelter and service to the homeless. The church’s legacy and belief in serving others provided the strong foundation for Good Seed CDC to sprout.
The church provided the soil and planted the seeds that the Founder, Jonathan Thompson, watered. Thompson wanted to combine his passion for service with his skills as a general contractor and his experience in international development to help South Los Angeles, the community where he was born and raised, become a thriving healthy community. After spending years as a commercial real estate broker, Thompson knew that South Los Angeles was a neglected area full of potential for the residents who live there. Which is why he used his skills to build Grade A, contemporary, aesthetically pleasing residences with the latest eco-friendly features. Not content to rest on his laurels, Thompson sought to use these places to benefit those who would otherwise be forgotten, which is how the idea to teardown a dilapidated 300 sq. ft. home sitting on a bricks foundation into an eco-friendly, well designed, energy efficient 1,600 sq. ft. emergency shelter that has served and supported numerous homeless Transition-Age Youth from all walks of life from throughout LA County.
